The Sanford Stem Cell Institute Symposium
This symposium aims to bring together stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and the public to discuss developments in the field for turning stem cell-based therapies into approved products for patients in need. The program will highlight stem cell regeneration in several disease areas and will include interactive discussion panels regarding stem cell publishing, stem cell clinical trials, and stem cells in space.

Abstract Submissions
Attention all UC San Diego, La Jolla Institute for Immunology, Salk Institute, Scripps Research & Sanford Burnham Prebys Researchers:
Abstracts are solicited from trainees working on stem cell and regenerative medicine-related projects.
The 2023 Sanford Stem Cell Institute Symposium is a two-day event taking place on Thursday, October 19 - Friday, October 20, 2023, with an excellent line-up of guest speakers. There will be a trainee poster session with monetary prizes and opportunities to give short talks at the Sanford Symposium.
A $5,000 prize of research funds for an Outstanding Stem Cell Graduate Student and an Outstanding Stem Cell Postdoctoral Fellow of the Year will be awarded. The prizes will be for recent work in stem cell and regenerative medicine-related projects. Graduate student eligibility is open to active M.D., Ph.D., and M.D./Ph.D students.
Selected abstracts will present their work at the Inaugural Sanford Stem Cell Institute Symposium. In addition to the two top prizes above, two runners-up will each have a 5-minute blitz talk at the Symposium and be awarded $200.
We will additionally have an in-person poster session on Thursday, October 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. A third $5,000 prize (for research & travel only) will be awarded for Best Poster. Non-faculty are eligible for this prize (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduate researchers, research staff/technicians, and project scientists are all eligible. Please inquire if you are curious about eligibility).
The new deadline to submit abstracts is Friday, September 15, 2023, at 5:00 pm.
Abstract Instructions
Please submit a single-page PDF document with the presenting author’s last name and affiliation in the file title. Additionally, please put the applicant’s name, PI, and applicant type (e.g. graduate student, post-doc) at the top of the abstract page. (Single-spaced, Arial font 11, 1.0-inch margins, and a character count limit ~2,900, including spaces).
